These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the TradeFacts.io API and website (the "Service"). By requesting a trial key, subscribing to a paid plan, or accessing any API endpoint, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
TradeFacts.io provides machine-readable access to US Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and Canadian Customs Tariff data via a JSON API. Data is sourced from the US International Trade Commission (USITC) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and is updated on a nightly basis. The Service includes API endpoints for code lookups, keyword searches, chapter retrieval, change detection, and webhook delivery of tariff updates.
Access to the Service requires a valid API key, issued upon trial registration or paid subscription. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your API key. Do not share keys across organizations or embed them in publicly accessible code repositories. If your key is compromised, contact us immediately at [email protected].
New accounts receive a 30-day free trial with full access to all features of the selected tier. No credit card is required to start a trial. Trials are limited to one per organization. At the end of the trial period, API access is suspended unless a paid subscription is activated.
Paid subscriptions are billed monthly through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges at the applicable tier rate. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You may cancel at any time through the customer portal at billing.tradefacts.io; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Upgrades and downgrades are applied immediately with prorated adjustments.
You may use the Service to build applications, tools, and workflows that consume tariff data. You may not:
We reserve the right to suspend access for violations of these terms without refund.
Tariff data is sourced directly from official government publications (USITC and CBSA). We normalize, validate, and maintain a stable schema, but we do not independently verify tariff rates for legal compliance purposes. Data provided through the Service is for informational and software integration purposes only and does not constitute legal, trade compliance, or customs advice. You are responsible for verifying rates against official sources before making compliance or filing decisions.
We target 99.5% monthly uptime and operate continuous health monitoring via UptimeRobot. Scheduled maintenance is performed during low-traffic windows and announced where possible. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access and are not liable for losses arising from downtime, delayed data updates, or upstream source changes from USITC or CBSA.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, RIC Services and TradeFacts.io shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, including but not limited to customs penalties, compliance fines, or business losses. Our total liability under these Terms shall not exceed the amount paid by you for the Service in the three months preceding the claim.
The TradeFacts.io API, documentation, website, and underlying software are owned by RIC Services. The underlying tariff schedule data is published by US and Canadian government agencies and is in the public domain. Your license to access the Service does not grant ownership of any intellectual property.
You may cancel your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, fail to pay, or if we discontinue the Service. In the event we discontinue the Service, we will provide at least 30 days notice by email and pro-rate any remaining prepaid subscription fees.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email to the address on your account. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario.
